With a lifelong passion for construction, Roof Windows Specialist proprietor, Mark O’Neill, developed his skills in the trade from an early age, initially via his father’s contracting business. Mark was roofing houses when he was just 15 years old, and was keen to pursue a career in the industry. ​ Completing a BTEC in Construction, followed by a degree in the same, Mark went on to work for a local construction company for three years, before working for the world’s biggest roof window manufacturer, VELUX®, which ultimately inspired him to strike out on his own to solve VELUX® customers’ concerns once their 10 year guarantee has expired. Also providing easy access to more space in the home whilst ensuring energy efficient measures are promoted were possible. John started working in kitchens in 1984 as an apprentice kitchen fitter, and completed the apprenticeship and began fitting on his own with his own apprentice. 11 years later he was asked to cover for the installation manager who was on leave. A role which he covered for 6 years looking after 7 fitting teams, installing up to 20 kitchens a week. In 2002, John was introduced to the German kitchens, which are specifically made to order. The design process has evolved and kitchen design is more about Interior design and room planning, now that open plan living has become the norm.

In this seminar, John will be able to give a brief outline of the basics of good kitchen design along with an insight into the furniture, worktops, appliances, gadgets etc

Robert Clements is the Sustainable Development Unit Manager for the Housing Executive, working within Regional Services. His unit is the custodian for the Home Energy Conservation Authority statutory function and the Housing Executive’s environmental management system. Robert has worked in social housing for over 20 years, and has extensive experience in residential maintenance and refurbishment with his previous experience in the Private Grants Dept. and within the housing association sector. He has worked in residential energy efficiency for over 5 years. Recently he wrote the ‘Energy Efficiency Good Practice Guide for Refurbishment of Residential Sector’ and is a certified Passive House Consultant.  Robert graduated from Ulster University in 1993 with a BSc (Hons) in Building Engineering and Management and is a chartered member of the Charted Institute of Building.
